On the third and final day of the 2011 State Meet Daniel Swanson ran a strong race start to finish, placing seventh in a personal best time of 1:56.28.   Also competing was Peter Ianelli, who had an off day throwing the javelin, but finished up an excellent season.

The boys team finished tied for 18th, with 15 points, at the end of the meet.

On the second day of the State Meet, Brian Hutchison added a fourth place in the discus to his shot put second on Day One.   Throwing conditions were less than ideal, with intermittent rain, cold and wind.   Brian threw 157’5″ for 4th place, which prior to the start of the 2011 season would have been the Roosevelt school record.

On the track, Daniel Swanson ran an excellent race under adverse conditions to advance to the Saturday finals, to be run at 10:50, and a guaranteed podium spot.

Anthony Steinauer, while not advancing to the final, ran close to his PR in the 300 hurdle prelims.   With less than one full season of hurdling experience, Anthony represented Roosevelt well in advancing to the State Meet.

Saturday is the final day of the State Meet.   Peter Ianelli will throw the javelin at 10 am and Daniel Swanson competes in the 800 final at 10:50.  Lucy Cheadle (Daniel’s prom date)  will be competing in the 1600 final at 4:30.

GO RIDERS!

On the first day of the State 4A meet Brian Hutchison finished second in the shot put with an outstanding throw of 58″8.75″.   Congratulations, Brian, and good luck in the discus on Friday.

Outstanding efforts from all of the Roosevelt boys competing on Day Two of the Bi-district meet earned a seventh place team finish among the 22 teams at the meet.   The team had only finished seventh at the Kingco meet a week earlier.   Four Roosevelt boys advance to the State Meet in five events.

The top five finishers in each event earned a trip to the State Meet.    Brian Hutchison earned a second spot at State, having qualfiied in the shot put on Day One, with a fourth place finish in the discus.  Not qualifying for State, but adding to the team score, was sophomore Wil McKinley, seventh in the discus.   PeterIanelli launched the javelin a personl best 182’2″ for third place, and completed the trifecta for Roosevelt throwers, with State entries in all three disciplines.

On the track, Daniel Swanson, was second in the 800 in a personal best time of 1:57.54.   Joining Daniel at State is his sister Hannah, also in the 800.    Anthony Steinauer, a novice 300 hurdler this year, struggled in the middle of his race but finished strong to place fifth and qualify to advance to Tacoma, running a personal best 41.64.

Closing out the meet, the 4 X 400 relay team of Anthony Steinauer, Connor Smith, Daniel Swanson and Ethan Nakayama, while only finishing seventh, had a great race, running 3:29.93 to cut 3 seconds from their season best mark.   It was an outstanding effort by a team that barely qualified to even get in the Kingco championships.

The State Meet will be at Mount Tahoma HS in Tacoma on May26-28.   Brian will be competing in the shot put on Thursday, May 26.   On Friday, May 27 Anthony and Daniel will run in the 800 and 300 hurdles prelims, and Brian will compete in the discus.  On Saturday, May 28, Peter competes in the javelin and hopefully Daniel and Anthony will be running in the finals of their events.   Also qualifying to compete at the State Meet are girls track team members Hannah Swanson, 800, Lucy Cheadle, 1600, and Taylor Swanson, 100.

On May 18, Day One of the Bi-District meet in Marysville, Brian Hutchison earned a return trip to the State meet with a victory in the shot put.   Brian’s 58 foot winning throw gave him a comfortable margin of victory, and the opportunity to improve on his 9th place finish at State in 2010.

In preliminary races, Daniel Swanson and Anthony Steinauer were second in their heats of the 800 and 300 hurdles respectively.   They will compete in the finals on Friday for the opportunity to move on to State.  Also advancing to the final was the 4 X 400 relay team of Anthony Steinauer, Connor Smith, Daniel Swanson and Ethan Nakayama.

Field events on Friday featuring Roosevelt athletes are the discus with Brian Hutchison and Wil McKinley and the javelin with Peter Ianelli and Zach Jacobsen.  Both start at 5 pm and Coach Kenney will be a busy man shuttling between venues.

The State meet is May 26-28 at Mount Tahoma HS in Tacoma.  Brian will be competing in the shot put on Thursday, May 26, and hopefully will have some company at the end of the Bi-district meet competition.

On the second day of the Kingco championships Brian Hutchison won the discus with a school record 165’5″ throw, making him a double champion after his shot put win on Wednesday.   Sophomore Wil McKinley threw a personal best 134’1″ to finish 5th and also qualify for the district meet.

Other individuals qualifying for the district meet were Daniel Swanson and Nick Murphy in the 800 and Anthony Steinauer in the 300 hurdles.   Earlier qualifiers from Wednesday were long jumper Spencer Farias, javelin throwers Peter Ianelli and Zach Jacobsen, and Brian in the shot.

Both relays advanced to the district meet.   The 4 X 100 team of Chase Kutsunai, Connor Smith, Devon Becker and Ethan Nakayama finished 7th.  The 4 X 400 team of Anthony Steinauer, Connor Smith, Daniel Swanson and Ethan Nakayama came into the meet seeded 8th.   After knocking more than 5 seconds off their season best they finished 5th n the final.

The district meet will be at Quil Ceda Stadium in Maryville (Marysville Pilchuck HS) on Wednesday, May 18 and Friday, May 20.  The top 5 finishers at the district meet advance to the state meet.

On the first day of the Kingco track and field championships Brian Hutchison won the shot put with a throw of 57’6.5″.  Brian will compete for the discus title on Friday.

The Roosevelt boys were in fourth place after the first day of competition, held at Juanita HS on a thoroughly miserable day.  In addition to Brian, Roosevelt scorers included Peter Ianelli and Zach Jacobsen, 3rd and 6th in the javelin, and Spencer Farias, 5th in the long jump.   All of them have qualified for the Bi-District meet on May18 and 20 in Marysville.

From first day preliminary races Daniel Swanson and Nick Murphy advanced to the finals of the 800 and Anthony Steinauer qualified in the 300 hurdles.    Also competing on Friday are Hart Hornor and Adam Houston in the 3200, the 4 X 100 and 4 X 400 relays, triple jumper Tani Roach and discus throwers Brian Hutchison, Wil McKinley and Jack Schiedeman.

The 2011 Kingco Championships will take place on May 11 and 13 at Juanita High School.   See the meet website link for meet information, including heat sheets when they are available.
